28mm Old glory hellenistic staffslingers

This is a large unit of old glory 28mm skirmishers based for WAB on 25mm by 25mm metal

bases.usually used as 2 separate units of 12 and 18 staffslingers. I used to use these for my

28mm Saxon warbands

Hello again, these are pictures of 2 of my Saxon Warbands based on 20mmx20mm metal bases,stuck on magnetic move trays. 2 x 24 man units for a half finished WAB army. Each warband has 8 Huscarls in the front rank and 16 supporting thegns. The figures are all Black Tree Design, part of an army deal. All figures came with hand axe only, so all the figures with a spear have had the axe drilled out and replaced. That was a lot of drilling as i have two other unpainted similar units. shield designs all hand painted( poorly too ). Boy I think Wargames Factory Vikings/Saxons are going to sell like hotcakes... I think if i do Viking/Saxon it will be in 1/72-between Zvezda and Emhar and If only I still had myRevell boxes... I don't know why but i really enjoy 1/72 plastic. It paints up quicker, it's cheaper, more accurate human proportions.,and I still base them as I would 28mm metal. of course these saxons actually measure about 33mm while my 1/72 are about 25mm.

Indian Elephants in 1/72

Here are the beginnings of my Indian army for Impetus (also FOG).

I figure 12 elephant models should be enough for any occasion. In

Impetus I would use 2 models for one unit, giving me 6 units of elephant power.

The models are 1/72 plastic by HAT/COATES & SHINE, and are not that bad.

My personal favorites are Zvezda and Caesar in this scale but sadly neither do

an Indian line yet. These were very quick to paint up as I did not do very much

detail or decoration....I may revisit them later...I may not.

I'm very happy with this sizeable elephant contingent as it was very cheap.

maybe 5 or 6$ per box, and whats best is there was a mistake and each box contained 3 elephants instead of 2.

New Kingdom Egyptian army for Impetus

Well, I have finished my New Kingdom Egyptian army for Basic Impetus.

The figures are 1/72 Caesar miniatures, consisting of 3 separate boxes of figures.

I am very impressed with Caesar's range and commitment to the chariot period,

and what great figures! It is primarily Caesar and the advent of plastic primer spraypaint

that enticed me back to the scale of my youth.

The army for Basic Impetus consists of 4 units of light chariots; 2 units of heavy infantry;

2 archer units;and 1 poor unit of archer skirmishers.I have chosen to use 2 chariots per element,although the rules only called for one. I plan on adding some sparse vegetation to the bases as soon as I figure out how to make it look good. As I figure out his blog thing a little more each time, I may even one day post a battle report.

Rebasing, as fun as yardwork?

Well it's that time of year again. I've decided to pursue playing Impetus, so I will be making all my armies interchangeably based for impetus and FOG(most will be in 1/72 plastic-based as 28mm)
my heavy inf./light infantry will be 60mm frontage and 30 mm depth with 4 stands equalling an Impetus stand...I may do 6 figs/stand for heavy close order and 4 /stand for light infantry.
currently basing my NKE.. will post pics as soon as possible.
My basing method for 1/72 plastics is as follows:
1) sprue cutters to remove plastic base from individual figs( this leaves the mini standing on platform shoes)
2) coat the 60 by 30 mm base(I use thin formica samples-free from local DIY store)-with a thin layer of adhesive grout
3) texture the grout
4)paint the grout with thinned ground color paint/ink
5)place the minis in the grout and let dry
6) drybrush ground and glue on flock

MOSTLY finished fog army

Hi, this is my first post, and I really have no idea what I'm doing.

I don't get a lot of time to wargame anymore but I still enjoy painting,

planning the army, and obsessively purchasing the army. All I can usually hope for

is to finish painting the army before some other project steals my limited attention.

Hopefully this blog will help me to focus my limited painting energies, and help me to focus and finish my many projects. The first project is an army for Field of Glory. Early Republican Roman. The figures are 1/72 Zvezda plastic. So far I have finished the infantry.

I have 15 bases Velites, 33 bases of Hastati/Principes, and 8 bases of Triari. All of the minis cost about 30-40$(either 3 or 4 boxes). All in all it was a great way to field an inexpensive

army for FOG. The painting was easy, minimal detail-enhanced with black wash of Future floor wax. The whole army is also mounted on magnetic movement stands.

Now I just have to finish 2 boxes of cavalry and I'm done....
